Aquatic plant sampling has begun from the lakebeds of Lakes Como and Lugano, one of the key activities planned within the ECHO project. This phase of the project is aimed at collecting plant material suitable for reproduction in tanks using specially designed supports for native aquatic species, which will later be reintroduced into the lakes at selected experimental sites.

The sampling is carried out underwater by a team of experts, ensuring a selective and sustainable collection process. The data gathered will also contribute to the understanding of existing biodiversity and to the development of long-term conservation strategies.

The ECHO project involves Italian and Swiss partners, promoting a shared and cross-border approach to the protection of natural resources. Lakes Como and Lugano, environments of high ecological value, are at the heart of this innovative initiative that combines research, conservation, and the fight against climate change.

Further updates on the ongoing activities will be published in the coming weeks.
